There is beauty in simplicity though. And even if it's not ornate, the fact that you would share something which is special to you with him means so much more than anything.
[Fingon looked down at the cloth, reaching out to read the name before looking back up at her.]
It's never easy to say good bye but I understand the need to. It takes strength to be able to do that.
[He reached out to squeeze her hand.] If you need either of us to come with you, we will be there for you. But I am glad you aren't going alone. The pups are wonderful company, I am sure she will look after you.
The South doesn't understand sentiment. (Loyalty and justice are scarce enough that perhaps that is no surprise.) It stems from the royalty. They are corrupt and the city suffers.
(But it wasn't better in the Eyrie either.)
The Starks and the Tullys are...different. I thought their way of thinking was prevalent as a child. I know better now.
(Glancing down at his hand, she swallows a rush of nerves.)
I need to do this on my own. The longer I hold onto what I have lost, the longer I remain chained by it.
[Fingon's heart hurt as she talked, he hated seeing that realization of what the world really contained. He let her hand go with a nod, a sad look on his face.]
There is darkness in the world, corruption and not everyone is good. I wish it was otherwise and sometimes there seems to be little one can do.
But- all we can do is keep going. Just keep being who you are, Sansa. Keep being kind and generous, keep the lessons you were taught by your family and it will make the difference. Being true to who you are will do more than you think.
(Her eyes burn and she rises, moving to sit beside him. She rests her head on his shoulder, wondering if proximity will give her some of his strength and wisdom.)
I am Sansa Stark. I don't want to be anyone else. (Being Alayne had been a nice retreat. Alayne had been simpler by far. But she always knew in her heart she would be Sansa again someday.)
If anything happens to me, I know you will be strong. I am so grateful to you and Maedhros. I hope you never think of this time as...misused or wasted.
I wouldn't want you to be anyone else either. Sansa Stark is amazing just as she is. [He wrapped an arm around her, kissing the top of her head.
He would give her all the strength and wisdom that he could, like his parents had given to him once.]
This is the best use of my time that I can think of and I know Maedhros would agree. And there is no need to repay us. Just seeing how you have changed since I first met you is plenty.
(Once she would have thought herself worthy of a King and a kingdom.)
I am no better than anyone else. (She rests against him, feeling braver and stronger.) The deities of the city have played havoc on us from time to time. I do not think you would recognize me - beyond my appearance - if they made me a child again.
I used to think the same thing about myself, sometimes I still do. My cousins were all smarter, faster, taller than I am. My brother is intelligent and designs architecture, my sister is an accomplished huntress and my youngest brother is skilled with a sword. I really never had any skills that set me apart.
It's hard to remember not to overlook yourself or think of yourself as any less. [If he can help her become stronger and more confident, then he will consider everything worth it. They may not be related by blood but they are family.]
That's alright. No matter what happens here in the city, Maedhros and I will do everything we can to help you.
