[ a box arrives in the evening of the 31st; green wrapped and tied with a silver bow. inside fingon will find a simple silver circlet. maedhros has received a matching one. they are nowhere as grand or as well-made as something crafted in middle earth, but come on he's working with limited resources.
the note reads: for you and your spouse. i wish you a safe and peaceful new year. - thranduil ]
[Despite the post script, Fingon can't help but be slightly alarmed. When it comes to her he's always concerned for her welfare. He tucked the note away as he made his way to her room, knocking gently on the door.
He didn't want to disturb her if she was resting but he wanted to seek her out.]
Let me know if you need anything when you go into the forest. I just want you to be safe.
[Fingon smiled, lighting up brightly.]
Your braid was beautiful- you did a wonderful job. He showed it off to me later and you are going to have to teach me to do it- and braid it into my hair as well!
You are family, Sansa. We consider you our daughter even if you are not an Elf and we are not related by blood. Family isn't always about bloodlines.
[This makes him really happy, he knows Maedhros has made a great deal if progress.]
Maedhros normally has trouble with letting others touch him or get close physically. He is getting better so I am always happy to hear that he's able to relax and be happy around others more than ever.
I'm likely going to have some company. One of the pups has taken after Lord, I think. She follows me whenever I near the cave.
(And who has the heart to push such a sweet companion away? Sansa usually scoops her up and carries her with her.)
Oh...thank you. I told him it was a Northern braid - not as ornate as the Southern ones - but the style means more to me. It looks...strong. Which suits him.
(She flushes and finally sits down, reaching for the squares of cloth.)
I've been sewing these for some time. It's a sort of...funeral, I suppose. (That might sound sad and depressing. She holds out the cloth for him to see. Each one is stitched with a first name and then a symbol that suits that person in her mind.)
I want to put the past behind me. I feel like if I can say goodbye in my own way, I can begin again.
...for you and for him. He put a great deal of trust in me and I'm relieved he didn't regret it.
There is beauty in simplicity though. And even if it's not ornate, the fact that you would share something which is special to you with him means so much more than anything.
[Fingon looked down at the cloth, reaching out to read the name before looking back up at her.]
It's never easy to say good bye but I understand the need to. It takes strength to be able to do that.
[He reached out to squeeze her hand.] If you need either of us to come with you, we will be there for you. But I am glad you aren't going alone. The pups are wonderful company, I am sure she will look after you.
The South doesn't understand sentiment. (Loyalty and justice are scarce enough that perhaps that is no surprise.) It stems from the royalty. They are corrupt and the city suffers.
(But it wasn't better in the Eyrie either.)
The Starks and the Tullys are...different. I thought their way of thinking was prevalent as a child. I know better now.
(Glancing down at his hand, she swallows a rush of nerves.)
I need to do this on my own. The longer I hold onto what I have lost, the longer I remain chained by it.
[Fingon's heart hurt as she talked, he hated seeing that realization of what the world really contained. He let her hand go with a nod, a sad look on his face.]
There is darkness in the world, corruption and not everyone is good. I wish it was otherwise and sometimes there seems to be little one can do.
But- all we can do is keep going. Just keep being who you are, Sansa. Keep being kind and generous, keep the lessons you were taught by your family and it will make the difference. Being true to who you are will do more than you think.
(Her eyes burn and she rises, moving to sit beside him. She rests her head on his shoulder, wondering if proximity will give her some of his strength and wisdom.)
I am Sansa Stark. I don't want to be anyone else. (Being Alayne had been a nice retreat. Alayne had been simpler by far. But she always knew in her heart she would be Sansa again someday.)
If anything happens to me, I know you will be strong. I am so grateful to you and Maedhros. I hope you never think of this time as...misused or wasted.
I wouldn't want you to be anyone else either. Sansa Stark is amazing just as she is. [He wrapped an arm around her, kissing the top of her head.
He would give her all the strength and wisdom that he could, like his parents had given to him once.]
This is the best use of my time that I can think of and I know Maedhros would agree. And there is no need to repay us. Just seeing how you have changed since I first met you is plenty.
(Once she would have thought herself worthy of a King and a kingdom.)
I am no better than anyone else. (She rests against him, feeling braver and stronger.) The deities of the city have played havoc on us from time to time. I do not think you would recognize me - beyond my appearance - if they made me a child again.
I used to think the same thing about myself, sometimes I still do. My cousins were all smarter, faster, taller than I am. My brother is intelligent and designs architecture, my sister is an accomplished huntress and my youngest brother is skilled with a sword. I really never had any skills that set me apart.
It's hard to remember not to overlook yourself or think of yourself as any less. [If he can help her become stronger and more confident, then he will consider everything worth it. They may not be related by blood but they are family.]
That's alright. No matter what happens here in the city, Maedhros and I will do everything we can to help you.
[That is so adorable. Fingon can guess who that was left by. There is another note left at the door later, tucked safely with a small drawing of a wolf pup. Also tucked with the paper are a few chocolate candies.]
I know, he was excited to make dinner for the three of you. Let me know if you need anything else.
Your grandfather is just worried for you and wants you to be safe. [Fingon can't resist and picks Uil up, even though he gets wet paw prints on his robe. He doesn't care.]
[Fingon clapped his hands with delight as Uil came running back. He leaned over to catch the ball into his hand before throwing it far enough so she could run to get it.
She seemed to be full of energy.]
She's fun to play with! I can see why she likes the beach, so much room to play.
She is very happy with Papa. {Eärendil loves just being around his parents. They are two halves of one whole and their people love them. But not as much as he loves them!}
Mama is worried about Papa getting old, though.
{Uil bounces and picks up the ball, holding it up proudly as she prances back.}
Ah- he is mortal isn't he. [Fingon remarked sadly. He knew the pain of losing his other half- it was as if a part of him had died until he had found Maedhros.
He smiled though, not wanting to spoil the day as he leaned down to get the ball from Uil.]
You're such a good girl! Here! [He tossed the ball again for her.]
She's going to be tired tonight and ready to snuggle.

LordFingon,I need to speak with you - at your convenience.

I will be going into the forest today and I did not want you to worry.
(But there is another part.)
I do not know if...Maedhros...told you, but he did let me brush and braid his hair. I...did not want that to be awkward between you.
He said he considered me...family.
